An Evening with UVa Biochemist
Dr. Bryan Berger

Watch on YouTube

You can watch a video recording of the presentation on the DSOM YouTube channel.

We nearly had a full house at Grace Church | Red Hill at our event on Nov 20, 2025. We learned a lot from Dr. Berger and from each other.

About Bryan Berger

Dr. Berger looks to nature to help him create bio-based solutions to man-made problems. His work includes:

Currently, he and his team are traveling between PFAS-contaminated farmland in Maine and their lab here in Virginia as they work on their latest research project: finding new, bio-enabled strategies to prevent PFAS uptake in crops and the food web. Dr. Berger will give us an update on this work, which is funded by a grant from the EPA. Then we’ll open the floor to answer any questions you may have.

About Grace Church | Red Hill

This Episcopal church has a mission to be deeply rooted, boldly inclusive, and fully committed to the well-being of the earth and all living things.

Rev. Neal Halverson-Taylor and the congregation have generously welcomed Don’t Spread On Me to use the space for this event. The historical stone church comfortably accommodates more than 100 people and is located in Southern Albemarle, near the proposed land application areas.

About Our Event Partner, ABRA

The Allegheny-Blue Ridge Alliance (ABRA) works to support communities throughout the mountain regions of Virginia and West Virginia when they face threats to their health and environment from pollution and disruption.

ABRA will provide large-format maps at the event so you can see where biosolids have been spread and how they affect Albemarle County.
